Smart CITIES

Around 2010, the concept of Smart Cities was formulated, proposing a highly functional city, based on the use of technology in urban planning and civil participation, in a sustainable way, with the objective of achieving greater efficiency and speed in the processes that take place in the city. management of a city and thus reduce costs and obtain a better quality of life for its inhabitants. According to Getúlio Vargas Foundation, its methods are based on electronic governance, investment in public administration, urban planning, high investment in technology, and a relative attention to the environment (2019). It also emphasizes the development of international connections, human and economic capital. According to Kumar (2020) it has six components of a smart city that are smart life, smart people, smart mobility, smart economy, smart environment and smart government. The main objective is to use intelligent systems to catalyze economic development. This model is also being used in university cities, such as the FASCENS Universitary Center(Romano, 2020) and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB, 2020).
